Phew – a busy but good holiday weekend and now we’re into the work week! So that means it’s time for Midweek Sparkles and an update! My boss is on vacation this week which means a few extra things on my plate. AND we’re having some major work done in our yard!
We have a huge (for the Chicago suburbs) yard – at almost an acre – and when we moved in, the yard needed quite a bit of work. For background, our house was “flipped” so the inside was pretty much completely redone. But it was flipped over the winter months, which
means the company that redid the house didn’t do anything at all with the yard. Over the past two and a half years, we’ve done some work, but this was a big year for us. Our yard is FULL of HUGE mature trees. Some of them are great – but some of them are not. We have one maple that was hit by lightning and then was taken over by carpenter ants. One
pine that was so overshadowed by that maple that it’s just a spindle. Then we have a huge elm that’s probably 80 feet tall but has just reached the end of it’s lifespan (no leaves, no sprouts, etc.). So this week, we’re having five trees cut down – all of them over 40 feet tall. Not to worry – we have already planted one new tree and are planning several more (one in honor of our daughter next spring!). But it’s been tremendous to see them take the trees down.
Other than that, I’m planning a trip back to Iowa to see my extended family this weekend. G will stay to keep an eye on Buddy (and unfortunately do more yard work on his list) so my mom will go with me.
That’s my update – now some Midweek Sparkles!
- I found this interesting – comparing the cost of beauty supplies and procedures across countries – I love make-up and perfume and such, but I can’t imagine spending what some of the people in these countries do!
- Thoughts on this? I think it looks awesome for family biking…! I wonder how long until you can actually buy it!
- I love Harry Potter so I found this article on how it impacted our society fascinating!
- I have to admit that I’m tempted to make the trek into the city for the Chicago Baby Show...
So that’s it for the Midweek Sparkles for this week! I hope you all had a great holiday and are enjoying a shortened work week!
