I love tea! As a non-coffee drinker, tea is not only a source of caffeine in the morning, but also a comfort drink for me – especially during the cold winters here in northern Illinois! I wanted to share some of my favorite teas and of course if anyone has any suggestions, I’m always looking for new teas to try!
I primarily drink black and herbal teas (even though I know herbal teas aren’t technically teas but herbal infusions…). I’ve never really gotten into green teas (well except for Panera’s iced green tea which is more sugar than green tea…). So without further adieu, here are my favorites!
Harney & Sons Paris Tea: I love this tea! Paris is a “fruity black tea with vanilla and caramel flavors, and a hint of lemony Bergamot.” I first had it at a little tea shop in my home town in Iowa. That shop has – unfortunately – gone out of business but after I moved to New York, I was able to visit the Harney & Sons tasting room and shop in SoHo and of course they now have it to order on Amazon! This is probably my core black tea – I keep some at both work and home! They make both sachets and loose leaf.
Oregon Chai Concentrate: A chai tea latte is definitely my favorite fancy or special drink – what I get from Starbucks, etc. But by far my favorite chai concentrate is Oregon Chai. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it – chai tea is a blend of black tea with spices that you mix with milk (for a nice chai latte)! Now Oregon Chai has a variety of options (liquid, powder, sugar free, low sugar). I’ve only tried the Original liquid concentrate – and it’s awesome – organic with natural ingredients. I’ve heard that the powder concentrate isn’t as good but don’t know for sure. All I know is that since I’ve been able to make my own chai lattes at home with the Oregon Chai mix, I’ve been ruined for the Starbucks variety!
The Republic of Tea – Downton Abbey Estate Blend: G bought this for me for Christmas – I think he thought it would be a fun treat since I love Downton Abbey! But it has become one of my favorites! It’s a classic Earl Grey blended with vanilla. Normally I’m not a huge Earl Grey fan but the vanilla really balances this one out! It’s a limited time thing so I may need to stock up!
Herbal (Non-caffeinated) Tea
These are my favorite teas for the times (especially evenings) when I don’t want caffeine!
- Lake Geneva Spice Company – Lake Geneva Festival Blend: This one is perfect for a spring or summer evening and smells amazing! It’s a mix of green rooibos, coconut, lavender and vanilla.
- Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Rooibos Tea: “This is a carefully selected blend of Rooibos from South Africa, combined with natural pumpkin flavor, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.” I thought I might get tired of this one after the fall but I love it all the time!
- Republic of Tea Downton Abbey English Rose Tea: A delicate blend of rose, hibiscus and raspberry – the fact that this tea is pink when brewed is just a plus! Balanced between the floral and the berry, I really like this one – particularly with some honey when I want something lightly sweet!
- Celestial Seasonings Rooibos Teas Madagascar Vanilla Rooibos: A nice vanilla herbal blend – I love it with a bit of honey. My favorite find from a trip to the Celestial Seasonings Tasting Room!
I tend to prefer sachets or bags rather than loose leaf because they’re easier and less messy. But some of my favorite teas are only available in loose leaf! I’ll share more about my favorite way to strain and serve loose tea!
So that’s it – my favorite teas! I hope you enjoy some of these and I can’t wait to get any recommendations for new ones to try!
